The route

A mountain route around La Pedriza, in the Parque Regional de la Cuenca Alta del Manzanares, with the climb up the zigzags (the «zetas») as its highlight. It runs on forest tracks through granite, rockrose and pine, with views of the Pedriza crags and the Santillana reservoir. Ride only on the park's permitted tracks and paths: the narrow trails are for walkers. Bring water, because fountains are scarce in summer. On busy days, especially at weekends, car access to La Pedriza is closed. Spring and autumn are the best times to go.
