The climb that takes you from Vega de Pas, in the heart of the Pas valleys, to Espinosa de los Monteros over Estacas de Trueba. The road climbs between bright green meadows, stone huts and bare hills, with open bends and good views back over the Pas valley. The gradients are steady and the wind hits hard near the top. Have breakfast or lunch in Vega de Pas before you set off (and try the sobaos): there are no services on the climb. Watch out for free-roaming livestock and fog, which is common on the pass. In winter there may be snow; best from May to October.
