The route

Signposted climb on the CIMA list that goes from the Marbella coast to the white village of Ojén and on to the Refugio de Juanar, in the Sierra Blanca, inside the Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park. The first part follows the Ojén road, with more traffic; past the village, the turn-off to Juanar narrows between pine and chestnut trees and the traffic almost disappears. At the top, at the refuge, there's room to stop and eat. In Ojén you'll find fountains, bars and a bakery to stock up before the final stretch. The best time is from autumn to spring; in summer, set off very early. Take care on the descent: there are tight bends and, in winter, the upper part can be icy first thing in the morning.

Track based on OpenStreetMap (CIMA climb ML01) (ODbL).
