The route

The climb to El Soplao cave from La Florida, in the Nansa valley. The road climbs the sierra de Arnero, with old mining areas in sight and views opening over the valleys of western Cantabria and, on clear days, towards the Picos de Europa. The gradients are steady, with no extreme ramps, and the road surface is good. At the top is the cave entrance, with a café when it is open: if you want to visit, check the opening times first and whether you can leave your bike. Best from spring to autumn. Water in the valley villages before you start.

Track based on OpenStreetMap (signposted climb CIMA CA17) (ODbL).
