The route

CIMA signposted climb (SC07) from Garachico, on the north-west coast of Tenerife, up to the Puerto de Erjos, the pass between the north and south of the island next to Teno. It starts at sea level, climbs through the bends that leave the town and its lava coast behind, and continues through the mid-altitude farmland and woodland up to the pass. It is a long, steady road climb: pace yourself and carry drinks from the bottom, because places to stop are scarce higher up. The north is often cloudy and damp at the top; wrap up for the descent. If you carry on south you link up with the Los Gigantes side. You can ride it all year round.
