You have a bike you no longer use and you are wondering where to sell it without hassle or nasty surprises. The answer depends on what you want: the best price, a quick sale or keeping things simple. Here are the four real options you have in Spain, what each one asks of you and how to avoid scams.

The four options for selling your bike

1. A cycling listings site

This is usually the option that gets you the best price, because you set it and deal directly with the buyer. On a cycling site, the people who visit are looking for a bike, know what a groupset or a frame size is and don't waste your time with silly offers, as sometimes happens on general classifieds apps.

On bicis.net you can list your bike in Second-hand for free: you upload the photos, set the price and interested people message you within the site.

2. A shop that buys bikes or takes them in part exchange

Many shops accept your used bike as part payment for a new one, and some buy bikes to resell them. You save yourself photos, messages and appointments, but the shop has to check it, service it and make something when it sells it, so it will offer you less than you would ask in a listing. It is a good option if you are going to change bikes at that same shop.

3. Asking for an offer without listing

If you don't want to wait for buyers, at We buy your bike you tell us what bike you have (brand, model, year, condition and photos) and we make you an offer to buy it. You decide whether to accept it. As with the shop, you pay for the convenience with a slightly lower price than in a listing.

4. Your club, your group and people you know

The calmest sale is to someone you already know: they know how you have looked after the bike and you know who you are giving it to. Mention it in your club or in the Sunday ride group. The problem is reach: if your bike is an unusual size or very expensive, maybe nobody around you is looking for one.

How much to ask: second-hand prices on bicis.net

Before choosing where to sell it, be clear about what it is worth. These are the medians of what sellers ask on bicis.net. It is the asking price, not the final price, and each category has at least 8 listings.

CategoryListingsMedian price (€)Half ask between (€)

Road43€1,100€665 and €2,825

To fine-tune it for your model, run it through the bike valuation tool, which is free, and see the guide how much is my bike worth.

What each option asks of you

  • Photos: in a listing they are the first thing people look at. In daylight, with the bike clean, side-on and from the drivetrain side, plus details of the frame, the wheels and any knocks. If you ask for an offer, you will be asked for them too.
  • Price: in a listing you set it, with a reference. At a shop or with a direct offer, the buyer sets it.
  • Meeting: with a listing or with someone from the club, you arrange to meet so they can see it and try it. Better in a public place and in daylight.
  • Receipt and serial number: keep the purchase receipt handy and note down the serial number, which is usually engraved under the bottom bracket. They give the buyer confidence and prove the bike is yours.
  • Safe payment: in cash, or by bank transfer or Bizum already received before you hand over the bike. Never hand over the bike with the payment «on its way».

How to avoid scams when selling your bike

  • Be wary of anyone who doesn't want to see it and offers to pay more than you ask or to send a courier. It is the most common scam.
  • Don't share codes you receive by SMS or links to «get paid»: you don't need to give any password to receive money.
  • Check the money before handing over. Make sure the transfer is in your account, not just a receipt on a screen.
  • For the test ride, ask for something in return: that they leave their ID or their bike while they ride round, or go with them.
  • Write a simple sale agreement with the details of both people, the bike, the serial number, the price and the date. It protects you if there is a problem later.

How to list your bike for free on bicis.net

  1. Go to Second-hand and click «Sell your bike for free».
  2. Choose the category and write the brand, model, year, size and groupset.
  3. Upload the photos and describe the condition without hiding anything: the knocks you show won't be argued about later.
  4. Set the price with a reference, from the valuation tool or the table above.
  5. Reply to messages quickly: people looking for a bike usually write to several sellers at once.

Frequently asked questions

Where should I sell my bike to get the most money?

Usually in a listing, because you set the price and sell directly. On bicis.net a mountain bike asks a median of €850 and a road bike €1,100 (data as of 4 November 2026).

What is the quickest way to sell my bike?

Asking for a direct offer or leaving it in part exchange at a shop: you don't have to wait for buyers, in return for a slightly lower price than in a listing.

Does it cost anything to list my bike on bicis.net?

No. Listing in Second-hand is free and you deal directly with whoever wants to buy it.

Good photos in daylight, a price with a reference, the receipt if you have it and the serial number noted down. And get paid before you hand over the bike.

How do I avoid being scammed when selling my bike?

Don't accept payments «on their way» or deliveries with a courier you don't know, don't share codes you receive by SMS and only hand over the bike when the money is in your account.
