If you're looking for a second-hand women's e-bike, what you're really after is almost always one of two things: a size that fits you well or a low frame you can step through without lifting your leg. Both work for anyone, whoever rides the bike. Here's how to choose one, what to check on the battery and motor, and what price makes sense.
What a «women's» e-bike is and what actually matters to you
For years brands have sold «women's» and «men's» bikes, but the real difference comes down to three things that don't depend on who's pedalling:
- The frame: step-through (no top tube), low top tube or classic diamond.
- The size: what matters is your height and the length of your legs and arms, not the label.
- The contact points: saddle, handlebar and grips, which are easy and cheap to change.
So search by frame and size, not by model name. You'll widen your choice a lot.
The step-through frame: comfortable, practical and for everyone
A step-through frame lets you get on and off without lifting your leg. It's the most comfortable option if you ride in everyday clothes, carry a basket or child seat, stop a lot in town or find it hard to lift your leg. That's why it's popular both with older riders and with people who use the bike to get to work.
In return, a low frame is slightly less stiff. For town and leisure riding you won't notice a thing; if you want to do proper mountain biking, look for an electric mountain bike in your size, whatever the frame.
Size comes first
An e-bike weighs more than a regular bike, and a large size is even more noticeable when you stop, lift it onto a kerb or put it away. Before you buy:
- Ask for the size and compare it with the manufacturer's chart for your height.
- Try it: you should reach the ground comfortably when you stop and the handlebar shouldn't feel far away.
- Check whether the seatpost and stem can be adjusted: they give you some leeway.
The battery: the most valuable part of the bike
On a used e-bike, the battery is the most expensive part and the one that wears most with years and charges. Check this:
The workshop diagnosis
Ask the seller for a recent diagnosis from a workshop of the motor's brand: it shows the battery's condition and the motor's kilometres. If they don't have one, suggest doing it together before you pay.
Charger, keys and invoice
Make sure it comes with its original charger, the battery keys and the invoice. Without the key you can't take the battery out to charge it at home, and without the invoice the warranty and resale will be harder.
Knocks and damp
Look at the battery casing and the connectors: no knocks, no cracks, no rust. A battery that's been knocked shouldn't be used.
The motor and everything else
- Motor: on a short test ride, it should push smoothly with no strange noises or jerks, and the display shouldn't show errors.
- Brakes: an e-bike goes faster and weighs more; the brakes need to bite firmly.
- Tyres and chain: with the motor they wear sooner. If they're near the end, factor it into the price.
If you ever sell yours, how to sell your used e-bike tells you what buyers look at.
Set it up for you after you buy it
A second-hand bike arrives with someone else's settings. It's worth spending a while on it, or asking your workshop, as soon as you get it home:
- Saddle: at the height where, with the pedal at the bottom, your leg is almost straight. If it bothers you, swap it for one that suits you: it's cheap and makes a big difference to comfort.
- Handlebar and grips: higher and closer if you'll ride upright around town; ergonomic grips if your hands go numb.
- Assistance modes: try the motor's levels and start with the gentlest. That way you learn to handle it and the battery lasts longer.
How much to pay for a second-hand e-bike
The table covers all the second-hand e-bikes listed on bicis.net: urban, leisure, mountain and folding. It's the seller's asking price, not the final price.
| Category | Listings | One in four asks less than (€) | Median (€) | One in four asks more than (€) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| E-bikes | 48 | 1,500 | 2,080 | 2,962 |
Data from bicis.net, Ciclismo en cifras, as of 4 November 2026.
A step-through city bike with a hub motor is usually at the lower end; a leisure or trekking bike with a branded mid-drive motor, in the middle; and a full-suspension mountain bike, at the top. If you're unsure about a price, compare it in the bike valuation tool.
Where to find one
In the second-hand e-bikes on bicis.net you can filter by your area and message the seller from the website. Meet in daylight and somewhere you can try it.
Frequently asked questions
Is a «women's» e-bike different from the others?
Not in what matters: it's an e-bike with a low frame or in a small size. If it fits you, it's for you, whoever you are.
What size e-bike do I need?
The one the manufacturer recommends for your height. Try it: you need to reach the ground comfortably when you stop and the handlebar without stretching.
How do I know if the battery is in good shape?
With a diagnosis from a workshop of the motor's brand, which shows its condition. Also ask for the original charger, the keys and the invoice.
How much does a second-hand e-bike cost?
It depends on the type and the motor. On bicis.net, second-hand e-bikes have a median asking price of €2,080 (48 listings, data as of 4 November 2026).
