The route

Climb to the El Caracol pass, the way between the Pisueña and Miera valleys. From Selaya the road heads up the valley and, near the top, links the tight hairpins that give it its name, over meadow and woodland slopes. The surface is tarmac and traffic is light, although you need to watch out for tractors and livestock. At the top you get views of the Montes de Pas. Selaya has bars, shops and a fountain; at the pass there's nothing, so climb with water. In the rain the tarmac on the bends gets slippery and fog is common for much of the year: take lights. On the other side you descend to San Roque de Riomiera, and from there you can link up with Lunada or Alisas.
