Gravel along the Ebro riverside woods from Alfaro

A loop through La Rioja Baja starting in Alfaro, which has a train station. It combines farm tracks along the banks of the Ebro, between poplar groves and market gardens, with dry-land tracks on the higher ground looking towards the Moncayo. Dirt and gravel surface, nearly always wide, with a few short stretches of tarmac to link up. Little elevation, ideal for riding at a steady pace. Water and food in Alfaro; there are hardly any fountains out in the fields. Best in autumn and spring. The cierzo wind often blows here: check the wind before you set off and save the tailwind stretch for the way back. In Alfaro, don't miss the storks on the collegiate church.
