The route

A long loop south from Toledo to find the Montes de Toledo. You head out through Cobisa and Burguillos, cross the open fields of cereal and olive groves to Mazarambroz and carry on towards Las Ventas con Peña Aguilera, where the landscape turns to holm oak and scrubland. From Las Ventas you climb the CM-403 to the Puerto del Milagro, the classic pass between Toledo and the Montes, with a steady climb you can ride at your own pace. At the top you turn around and come back through Las Ventas, Pulgar, Layos and Argés to Toledo. There are fountains and bars in every village: Mazarambroz, Las Ventas and Pulgar are good places to stop. Best from October to May: in summer the heat on the plain hits hard from mid-morning. On days with a westerly wind the way back gets tougher. The roads are secondary, with a narrow hard shoulder in some stretches, so ride with lights and in a group at weekends.

Before you set off, check the state of the road or track and follow the traffic rules. Enjoy the ride.
