Second-hand BH G6: price and what to check

If you're looking for a second-hand BH G6, here's what you need to know before meeting the seller: which version it is, what to look at on a carbon aero bike with some years on it and how much it makes sense to pay for it. The G6 was the aero bike from BH, the Vitoria-based brand, before the G7 family arrived, and you still see plenty of them in listings.
What the BH G6 is and which versions exist
The G6 is a carbon aero road bike, designed to go fast on the flat and in a group. It was sold with rim brakes, which is the first thing that sets it apart from today's aero bikes.
G6 and G6 Pro
The G6 Pro was the more refined version. One of its hallmarks is the direct-mount rear brake placed under the bottom bracket, hidden from the wind. It's a detail worth knowing: that brake gets dirtier and is harder to adjust than a conventional one.
What came next
In August 2015 BH launched the G7 Disc, with disc brakes, as the G6's successor. In 2017 came the G7 Pro, which offered rim brakes again and combined the best of the G6 Pro and the G7 Disc. So a G6 is, at the very least, from before 2015 or from that same season. Bear that in mind when judging its price.
What to check on a used BH G6
Carbon frame
Look for cracks near the head tube, at the seat tube junction and on the dropouts. Run your hand along the down tube. Ask whether it's been crashed: on an aero bike, a knock on the side of the tubes is hard to see with the naked eye. If in doubt, ask for a workshop to check it.
Rim brakes
Check that both brakes centre well and that the pads aren't glazed. Take a careful look at the rear one under the bottom bracket: no rust on the bolts, and it should spring back on its own when you release the lever.
Wheels
With rim brakes, the braking surface wears. If the wheels are aluminium, look for the wear indicator; if they're carbon, check there are no shiny or heat-deformed areas from descents. Spin each wheel: true and with no play in the hubs.
Drivetrain and cables
Measure the chain: if it's worn out, expect to replace the cassette and chainrings. On an aero bike with internal cables, clean shifting says a lot about how it's been looked after. If it has an electronic groupset, ask about the battery condition.
Headset and bottom bracket
Hold the front brake and push the bike: there should be no play in the headset. Spin the cranks without the chain: if they grind, the bearings need replacing.
How to test it
Ask for a ride of at least ten minutes, with a climb and a short descent. Shift through every sprocket on both chainrings, brake hard with each lever separately and listen: a creak when you push on a climb usually comes from the bottom bracket or the saddle, and it's easier to fix than to diagnose. Also notice whether the bike runs straight when you briefly let go of the bars on a quiet straight.
G6 or a G7?
If you'll ride almost always in the dry and want an aero bike at a good price, a well-kept G6 makes sense. If you want disc brakes or wider tyres, go straight for a G7 Disc or a more recent aero bike: the jump in braking in the rain is noticeable. And if the G6 comes with good carbon wheels, value them separately, because they can weigh heavily in the price.
How much to pay for a BH G6
A G6 is a bike with some years on it, so its price should be below what a typical used road bike asks on bicis.net, unless it has high-end wheels or groupset.
| Second-hand road bikes | Listings | One in four asks less than (€) | Median (€) | One in four asks more than (€) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Road | 41 | 680 | 1,100 | 2,800 |

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between the BH G6 and the G6 Pro?
The G6 Pro is the more refined version, with the direct-mount rear brake under the bottom bracket for better aerodynamics.
Does the BH G6 have disc brakes?
No. The G6 has rim brakes. Discs arrived with the G7 Disc, which BH launched in 2015.
How much is a second-hand BH G6 worth?
It depends on the groupset, the wheels and the condition. As a reference, a used road bike asks a median of €1,100 on bicis.net (data as of 28 October 2026). For your bike, use the valuer.
What wears out most on a BH G6?
BH hasn't published any known defect on the G6. What needs most attention over the years is the same as on any rim-brake aero bike: the rear brake under the bottom bracket, the wheels' braking surface and the bearings.
