Have you ever looked at a bike from the peloton and thought you'd never have one in your garage? Well, EF Pro Cycling has just opened that door: the team is selling the Cannondales its riders used in 2025 and 2026. If you're after a second-hand road bike with a story behind it, it's an interesting opportunity, and one worth looking at calmly.

According to Brújula Bike, the sale includes several models at their current prices, and you can also buy from Spain. Their article has the list of models and what each one costs, so here we focus on what matters to you: how to know whether it's worth it.

What's special about a pro team bike

A bike that has raced in the WorldTour usually comes with a top-end build and maintenance done by team mechanics, who check the bike almost every day. That's a point in its favour.

The flip side is the use: thousands of kilometres at race pace, trips in the team car, constant assembly and disassembly and, sometimes, the odd crash. It's not a Sunday bike that has slept in a living room, and the price should reflect that.

There's also the emotional factor. Having been ridden by an EF rider gives it extra value for collectors or fans of the team, but for riding, what counts is the real condition of the frame and the components.

What to check before buying a pro's second-hand road bike

Even if you're buying from a team, apply the same logic as with any used bike:

  • Size and geometry: pros ride very aggressive positions. Make sure the size is yours and that you'll be able to adjust the handlebar height to your liking.
  • Condition of the carbon frame: ask about any recorded knocks or crashes and request photos of sensitive areas such as the stays, top tube and head tube area.
  • Drivetrain wear: chain, chainrings, cassette and brake pads may be at the end of their working life. Factor their replacement into your budget.
  • Team-specific components: some sponsor parts may not be included or may differ from the shop version of the bike. Confirm exactly what comes with the bike.
  • Warranty and invoice: ask what cover it has and what paperwork you get, especially if you're buying from Spain from a seller abroad.
  • Shipping and customs: check transport costs and taxes so the final price doesn't shoot up.

Is it worth it compared with other used bikes?

It depends on what you're looking for. If you love the idea of owning a Cannondale with a pro past and the price suits you, it can be a purchase with plenty of charm. If what you want is the best balance of condition and price, compare it with other bikes of a similar level that have had a quieter life.

A good exercise is to open several tabs: the team's offer, the price of the same bike new and the second-hand road bikes on bicis.net. With the three figures in front of you, you'll quickly see whether you're paying for the bike or for the story.

And if you take the plunge, what do you do with your current bike?

Lots of people getting a new bike have another one hanging in the garage. If that's you, you can post your listing for free and let that money help pay for the new one, or ask for a valuation at We buy your bike if you'd rather sell it without waiting.

Whether you end up with an EF Cannondale or find another gem closer to home, what matters is that the bike fits you and makes you want to take it out every weekend. Have a look at the road bike listings and pick the one that makes you most eager to ride.
