Almost all tarmac: ideal for a road bike. Measured on OpenStreetMap; there may be recent changes on the ground.

The route

A short, twisting climb in the Marina Alta. You leave Pego among orange groves with the marshland behind you, and the road to the Vall d'Ebo starts stringing together hairpin bends up the side of the sierra. You gain height very quickly and every switchback gives you a view of Pego, the Dénia coast and, on clear days, Montgó. At the top, the road carries on to the Ebo valley, a quiet mountain corner. It's a short climb but a steep one, where your rhythm through the bends is what counts. Water and coffee in Pego before you start; at the top there are no services until the Vall d'Ebo. Rideable all year; in summer, go early. Narrow road with little traffic: take care on the descent.
