The route

A long, gentle climb up the Guadalest valley, in the interior of the Marina Baixa. You start in the lower part of the valley and climb the CV-70 between terraces of almond, olive and loquat trees, with the Guadalest reservoir below and the village castle perched on its crag. You pass Benimantell and carry on to Confrides, the last village before the pass, now among pines and with Aitana on your left. The finish is at the col above Confrides. It's a climb to ride at a steady rhythm: long, but without steep ramps. Water and coffee in Guadalest, Benimantell and Confrides. Excellent in winter, when the coast is mild; in summer, start early. At weekends lots of people drive up to Guadalest.
