The route

The Coll de Sóller via the old road, the one with the hairpin bends that has been almost car-free since the tunnel opened. You leave Sóller, cross the valley among orange trees and start linking tight bends up the hillside, with a steady gradient and good tarmac, among olive trees and pine woods. It's a climb to ride at your own pace and look back: the valley and the Puig Major sink further and further below. Water and coffee in Sóller before you start; at the top, on the pass, don't count on anything being open. Bikes aren't allowed in the tunnel, so you come back down the same road or descend towards Bunyola. Best from autumn to spring.
