The route

CIMA signposted climb (SC06) up to the Pico del Inglés viewpoint, in the Anaga massif, in north-east Tenerife. The road climbs in bends through laurel and heather forest to the ridge, where, if the clouds allow, you can see both sides of the island at once. Narrow tarmac, with visitors' cars at weekends and shaded sections that stay damp: ride with lights and brake carefully on the way down. In fog it is cool at the top even when it is hot below, so take a windproof. Buy water and food before you climb. You can ride it all year round.

Track based on OpenStreetMap (CIMA climb SC06) (ODbL).
