In November the days get shorter, dirt tracks take longer to dry and you fancy a ride without surprises. Flat greenways are your plan: old railway lines, with wide bends, gentle gradients and hardly any cars. You can go on your usual bike, on your gravel bike, on your e-bike or with someone who's just starting to ride with you.

On bicis.net we have 66 greenways measured along their course. Here are six of those with the least climbing, with their km and elevation gain, so you can choose the one that fits your weekend (data as of 27 October 2026).

The flattest greenways you can ride this November

We've ordered these six by elevation gain, from least to most. It's the total you climb over the whole route, not the hardest gradient: that's why a long route can add up more metres and still be very easy-going.

One by one: what you'll find

Tren Burra: the flattest one to get started

The Vía Verde del Tren Burra is 31.2 km with only 22 m of elevation gain. It's the one with the least climbing of all those we've measured. Ideal if you're riding with little ones, if you're getting back on the bike after a while or if you want to try an e-bike without using up the battery. You can do just one section and come back the same way.

Valle del Eresma: long kilometres without hills

If you fancy clocking up distance without tiring your legs, the Vía Verde del Valle del Eresma is 71.1 km with 75 m of elevation gain. It's enough for a long full-day ride or to split over two mornings. With November light, plan your section carefully and leave time to get back.

Santander-Mediterráneo between Valcorba and Ciria

This section of the Santander-Mediterráneo, in Soria, is 43.4 km with 93 m of elevation gain. Open landscape, little traffic and the feeling of riding along a railway that never reached its destination. A good plan for a gravel bike or a mountain bike with relaxed wheels.

Vía Verde del Litoral: riding along the coast

In Huelva, the Vía Verde del Litoral is 48.3 km with 122 m of elevation gain. In November the south still offers mild days, so it's a great option if you want to stretch out the autumn.

Campiña II, from Écija to Marchena

Between Écija and Marchena you have 43.7 km and 148 m of elevation gain across the Seville countryside. Open fields and a long horizon: pick a day without wind, because you'll feel it here.

The Carrilet, from Olot to Girona

The Vía Verde del Carrilet is 58.5 km with 195 m of elevation gain. If you start from Olot, the profile is in your favour all the way to Girona. With the autumn colours of the Garrotxa, it's one of the most beautiful you can ride this month.

How to prepare your greenway ride in November

  • Light: take front and rear lights even if you set off in the morning. There are tunnels and the afternoon draws in sooner than you think.
  • Surface: many greenways are compacted dirt. After rain there may be mud and puddles: slightly wider tyres or ones with a bit of tread give you confidence.
  • Layers: head out with a windproof jacket and light gloves. It's chilly in the morning and in open areas the wind cools you down fast.
  • Out and back: almost all of them can be done in sections. Decide beforehand where you'll turn round and don't push the daylight.
  • Water and something to eat: some sections have few villages. Take just enough so you don't depend on an open bar.

Before you set off, check the routes in your area on bicis.net: each page has the profile, the GPX and the map so you can ride with peace of mind.

Who each one is for

If you're riding with family or getting back on the bike, the Tren Burra is your place: it barely climbs and you can cut it short wherever you like. If you want kilometres, the Eresma lets you ride a lot without hills. If you're after scenery, the Carrilet and the Litoral are two autumn postcards. If you have a gravel bike, the Santander-Mediterráneo and the Campiña await you with open tracks.

And if you ride an e-bike, any of the six will do: on the flat the battery lasts much longer and you can ride with someone without a motor without anyone being left behind.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the flattest greenway on bicis.net?

The Vía Verde del Tren Burra: 31.2 km with 22 m of elevation gain, according to bicis.net data as of 27 October 2026.

Can I ride a greenway on a road bike?

It depends on the surface. Many are compacted dirt or gravel: on a road bike with thin tyres you'll struggle, especially if it has rained. A gravel bike, a mountain bike or a hybrid works much better.

Are greenways a good idea with children?

Yes. They have gentle gradients, wide bends and hardly any cars. Start with a short section of a flat greenway, like the Tren Burra, and come back the same way.

Do I need lights even if I ride during the day?

Yes. Some greenways have tunnels and in November it gets dark early. A front light and a rear light keep you safe on any section.

How many greenways are measured on bicis.net?

66 greenways measured along their course, with their km and elevation gain, as of 27 October 2026. You'll find them in Ciclismo en cifras.
