How much is a used Ghost worth? Kato, Riot, Square and e-bikes: prices and what to check

Ghost is a German brand with a big presence in Spanish shops, especially in mountain bikes and e-bikes. So if you're looking for a used bike to get started off-road or an e-bike to climb without suffering, there's a good chance you'll come across one. This guide to second-hand Ghost bikes tells you how to tell whether the asking price makes sense and what to check before you buy, or what to get ready if you're the one selling.
What people ask for a used bike on bicis.net
There aren't enough Ghost listings to give a median for the brand alone without cheating, so the honest reference is its category. These are the prices sellers ask on bicis.net, from the active «Vendo» (for sale) listings on 30 October 2026 (n = 218 listings in total):
| Category | Listings | Median (€) | Cheapest quarter up to (€) | Most expensive quarter from (€) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mountain | 98 | 813 | 450 | 1,380 |
| E-bikes | 48 | 2,080 | 1,500 | 2,962 |
This is the asking price, not what's finally paid. A well-kept entry-level Ghost hardtail usually sits in the lower half of the mountain bike range; a full suspension with a good build, in the upper half. With e-bikes, the battery matters more than the year. You can see all the tables in Ciclismo en cifras.
Ghost's families and what to look at in each
Knowing which family the bike belongs to tells you what it was designed for and where it tends to wear. Look for the name on the frame and the serial number under the bottom bracket.
Kato: the gateway to the mountains
It's the most affordable mountain family, with hardtail and full-suspension versions. As entry-level bikes, many have had little maintenance. Check the fork (no play and no oil leaks), wear on the chain and cassette, and that the disc brakes don't rub. A Kato in good condition is a sensible buy for getting started, but don't pay for it as if it were high-end.
Riot: full suspension for riding down with gusto
It's the trail and enduro family. Here the expensive repairs are in the suspension and the linkage bearings. Ask when the fork and shock were last serviced and ask for the receipt if there is one. With the bike on the ground, hold the front brake and push the saddle from side to side: if you feel a knock, there are bearings to replace.
Square: trekking and city
The Square Cross and Square Travel are bikes for commuting, riding greenways or touring with panniers. Check the rack, the lights and the dynamo if fitted, and the state of the tyres. They usually have a quiet life, but many sleep outdoors: check for rust on the bolts and chain.
Ghost e-bikes
Ghost makes mountain and trekking e-bikes and the Asket, a light gravel e-bike with a Fazua motor. In all of them, the part that decides the price is the battery. Ask to see the motor diagnostics and charge cycles at an official workshop, or at least that the display shows the range with a full battery. Check that the charger is the original and that the keys open the battery lock.
Quick check before you pay
- Frame: look at the welds, the head tube area and the chainstays. A crack in aluminium or a deep knock in carbon is a reason to walk away.
- Suspension: compress the fork with the brake on. If it creaks, leaks oil or has play, deduct the cost of a service.
- Drivetrain: chain, cassette and chainrings wear together. If it skips when you pedal hard, it all needs replacing.
- Brakes: firm levers, discs that don't rub and pads with material left.
- Size: a bike that isn't your size isn't a bargain. Try it with the saddle at your height.
- Paperwork: receipt, serial number and, for e-bikes, the workshop history.

If you're selling your Ghost
Put the exact family and year in the listing, the size and what you've changed. A photo of each side, another of the drivetrain and another of the serial number build trust. If it's an e-bike, show the battery's condition: it's the first thing people ask about. There are tips for that in the guide to selling your used e-bike. Set the price to match its category's range and its real condition: a well-presented bike with the right price sells sooner.
Ghost compared with similar brands
Ghost competes in the same ranges as Cube or Merida: bikes with a good build for their price and plenty on offer in shops. If you're torn between one and another, compare family with family and condition with condition, not brand with brand. There's the same guide for the used Cube.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a second-hand Ghost worth?
It depends on the family and condition. As a reference, on bicis.net a used mountain bike asks a median of €813 and an e-bike €2,080 (218 listings, data at 30 October 2026).
Which Ghost is best for getting started in mountain biking?
The Kato family, in its hardtail version, is the natural entry point: simple, with fewer parts to maintain and prices in the lower part of the range.
What should I check on a used Ghost e-bike?
Above all the battery: ask for the workshop diagnostics or check the range with a full battery. Also check the original charger and the lock keys.
Where is the serial number on a Ghost?
Usually under the bottom bracket. Photograph it and compare it with the receipt before you pay.
How do I know if a used Riot needs a suspension service?
Ask about the last service and check that the fork and shock don't leak oil or have play. If there's no service receipt, deduct it from the price.
