Second-hand Orbea Orca: price and what to check

The Orca is Orbea's race road bike: light, built for climbing and a common sight in group rides all over the country. That is why it comes up for sale second-hand so often, and why it pays to know which Orca you are looking at, because an older rim-brake one is not worth the same as a current-generation disc OMX. If you are looking for a second-hand Orbea Orca or want to sell yours, here is how to price it and what to look at.
What people ask for a used road bike
The reference is what people ask for a second-hand road bike on bicis.net. These are asking prices, not final sale prices.
| Category | Listings | One in four asks less than (€) | Median (€) | One in four asks more than (€) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Road | 41 | 680 | 1,100 | 2,800 |
Data from Ciclismo en cifras, active «Vendo» (for sale) listings as of 30 October 2026 (218 listings in total).
A carbon rim-brake Orca with a mid-range groupset usually sits close to the median. A recent disc OMR moves towards the upper part, and an OMX with an electronic groupset and carbon wheels can go above €2,800. For the price of other Orbeas, see how much a used Orbea is worth.
The Orca generations: how to tell which one it is
The rim-brake ones
These are the oldest Orcas you will see for sale, with external or partly internal cables and calliper brakes. Well kept, they are still very good climbing bikes, but they are worth the least: the second-hand market has moved to discs and they are harder to sell.
The disc OMX (from 2020)
Orbea renewed the Orca with the OMX: disc only, dropped seatstays and hidden cables. It is the top carbon in the family, stiffer and with more shaped tubes. It is the Orca worth most second-hand.
The OMR (from 2021)
The OMR arrived a year later as the carbon one step below, with rounder tubes, a bit more comfortable and more affordable. In that first version it had a more endurance-oriented position than the OMX.
The current generation (from 2023)
In the latest update, the OMX and OMR share the same geometry, lighter and geared towards climbing. The difference between them lies in the carbon and the build. If the bike is from this generation, ask for the year on the receipt: it is what weighs most on the price.
A tip so you don't get confused: the model name usually has a letter and a number (M10, M20, M30…). The lower the number, the higher the build. With the full name and the year you can look up its spec sheet on Orbea's website.
What to check before you pay
- The frame and fork. In good light, look at the head tube, chainstays, seatstays and the seatpost area. Look for fine cracks or impact marks. If in doubt, have a workshop check it before you pay.
- The internal cables and the headset. On disc Orcas the cables run through the headset. Turn the bar from lock to lock: it should move smoothly, with no rubbing or noise. A worn headset bearing can be replaced, but it costs labour.
- The disc brakes. Check the thickness of pads and rotors and that the lever doesn't pull all the way to the bar. If it does, they need bleeding.
- The drivetrain. Measure chain wear and look at the teeth on the chainrings and cassette. A worn drivetrain is a cost you can knock off the price.
- The bottom bracket. Spin the cranks without the chain. If there is play or noise, count on replacing the bearings.
- The wheels. Check they spin true, without rubbing, and whether they are stock or better ones.
- The size and the paperwork. Make sure the size suits you and ask for the receipt with the frame's serial number.
How to fine-tune the price of a used Orca
- Up if it is an OMX, disc, current generation, with an electronic groupset, carbon wheels, few kilometres and a receipt.
- Down if it is rim-brake, if the drivetrain is worn, if the frame has knocks or if there is no paperwork.
- A custom paint job doesn't add much to the price: people either like it or they don't. What really counts is the carbon, the groupset and the condition.
If it is your first used road bike, the guide used road bike from a pro team explains how to look at the frame and groupset. And on the Orbea brand page you have everything Orbea on bicis.net.
Selling your Orbea Orca
Put the full name and year in the listing title: «Orbea Orca M20 OMR 2023» is found far more easily than «Orbea road bike». Take photos in daylight, a full side view and close-ups of the groupset, the wheels and the headset area. State the size, approximate kilometres and what the workshop has done to it. Listing your bike on bicis.net is free.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a second-hand Orbea Orca worth?
It depends on the generation, the carbon and the build. As a reference, a used road bike on bicis.net has a median asking price of €1,100, with the middle half of listings between €680 and €2,800 (41 listings, data as of 30 October 2026).
What is the difference between the Orca OMX and OMR?
The carbon. The OMX uses higher-modulus carbon, stiffer and lighter; the OMR is one step below and more affordable. In the current generation both have the same geometry.
Is a rim-brake Orca worth it?
Yes, if the price is low and it is well kept: it is still a light climbing bike. But bear in mind that when you sell it, it will be harder to sell than a disc one.
How do I know what year an Orca is?
From the receipt and the serial number. Also look at the brakes and cables: if it is disc with the cables running through the headset, it is from 2020 onwards.
