If you're looking for a second-hand Specialized Stumpjumper, here's what you need so you don't overpay: how to tell which generation it is, which parts to check carefully and what people are asking today for a used mountain bike on bicis.net. The Stumpjumper is Specialized's classic trail bike: it climbs with ease, descends with confidence and lasts for years if it's been looked after.

Which Stumpjumper is in front of you: the generations

The name has been in the catalogue for decades, so two «Stumpjumper» listings can be very different bikes. Before talking price, place yours:

  • Stumpjumper FSR (up to 2018). Full suspension with the four-bar FSR system. From 2016 the carbon ones introduced the SWAT door in the down tube, to store a tool and a tube inside the frame.
  • 2019 generation. New frame with the «Sidearm», the strut joining the seat tube and the down tube. It came in several versions: ST (less travel), the standard one and the EVO, more descent-oriented, with 29 or 27.5 wheels. A more affordable aluminium version also arrived.
  • 2021 generation. The carbon Stumpjumper moves to flex stays instead of the classic pivot, keeps only 29 wheels and the ST disappears. The 2021 Stumpjumper EVO stays with FSR and has adjustable geometry.
  • Stumpjumper 15 (from 2024). Merges the Stumpjumper and the EVO into a single frame, drops the Sidearm and fits the Genie shock, made with Fox. From the 2026 season they are all called Stumpjumper 15 EVO.

Don't confuse it with the Stumpjumper hardtail or with the Turbo Levo, which is the brand's trail e-bike. Always ask for the year and a photo of the serial number, which is under the bottom bracket.

What people ask for a used mountain bike

bicis.net doesn't yet have enough Stumpjumper listings to give its own price, so the reference is the whole mountain bike category. This is what sellers ask, not the final price:

CategoryListingsOne in four asks less than (€)Median (€)One in four asks more than (€)
Mountain1014508501,400

Data as of 3 November 2026, from Cycling in figures. A full-suspension Stumpjumper usually sits in the upper half of the range, and higher the more recent the generation, if it's carbon and if it has high-end suspension and drivetrain. A ten-year-old aluminium FSR, on the other hand, should be near the bottom. To fine-tune for your case, try the bike valuation tool and see what the brand is worth in general in how much a used Specialized is worth.

What to check before you pay

The shock and the fork

They are the most expensive parts to maintain. Ask when they were last serviced and ask for the invoice if there is one. Check that the stanchions are clean and unscratched, that they don't leak oil and that the bike doesn't sink by itself when you lean on it. On the Stumpjumper 15, check that the Genie shock works just as smoothly through its whole travel.

Bearings and linkages

With the bike on the ground, hold the rear wheel and move it sideways: there should be no play. Lift the rear and drop it a little: if you hear sharp knocks, the bearings need replacing. The FSR and EVO models have more pivots to check; on the 2021 carbon ones, look closely at the stays, because they work by flexing.

The frame and the SWAT door

Check the carbon in good light, especially under the down tube and on the stays, where stones hit. Open the SWAT door: it should close properly and there should be no water or rust on the bolts inside. A crack or a deep impact in the carbon is a reason to walk away, however good the price.

Drivetrain, brakes and dropper post

Measure chain wear, look at the teeth on the chainring and cassette and try every gear. Squeeze the brake levers: they should stay firm, without reaching the grip. The dropper post has to go up and down without stopping halfway.

Paperwork and origin

Ask for the invoice or, at least, an explanation of where it comes from. With the serial number, an official Specialized shop can tell you the year and model. We don't know of an official recall affecting the whole Stumpjumper range; if you have doubts about a particular bike, ask at the shop with that number.

How to negotiate and test it

Meet in daylight and bring your pedals and helmet. Ride on dirt even if only for five minutes: climb, brake hard and drop off a step or two. If the suspension needs a service or the bearings need changing, factor it into the price calmly and without rushing. Before meeting, go over the guide on how to buy a second-hand mountain bike, which includes sizing and the full checklist.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a used Specialized Stumpjumper worth?

It depends on the generation, the material and the build. As a reference, on bicis.net a second-hand mountain bike has a median asking price of €850, and half the listings are between €450 and €1,400 (101 listings, data as of 3 November 2026).

How do I know what year a Stumpjumper is?

Look at the frame: if it has a Sidearm it's from 2019 onwards and before the Stumpjumper 15. The serial number, under the bottom bracket, gives you the exact year at an official Specialized shop.

What's the difference between the Stumpjumper and the Stumpjumper EVO?

Until 2023 the EVO was the version with more travel and more descent-oriented. Since the Stumpjumper 15 they share a frame, and from the 2026 season they are all called Stumpjumper 15 EVO.

What's the first thing I should check?

The shock and the rear suspension bearings, because they are the most expensive to sort out, and then the carbon frame under the down tube.
